Fide Master (FM) Haruna Nsubuga topped the table in the open category of the Easter Classic Chess Tournament held at Makerere University Business School (MUBS) over the weekend. 

Nsubuga enjoyed a perfect outing registering six victories at the two day tournament. 

He opened the tournament with a victory over Joseph Kawooya in the first round before beating Woman Fide Master (WFM) Goretti Angolikin, Candidate Master (CM) Daniel Bagaade and Thomas Katairo along the way to end the tournament as the only player in the open category to win all his games. 

Fellow FM, Patrick Kawuma, had a tournament to forget as he lost to lowly rated Paul Kafuko in his second round on Friday, before drawing against unrated Abraha Amanuel in the fifth round. 

Kawuma finished in second place with 4.5 points. 

Unrated George William Kalugo and Simon Gonza came 2nd and 3rd respectively both with 4.5 points while Bagaade finished in fifth place with 4 points. 

Maria Nakanyike won the U16 category with a perfect eight after beating all her opponents.

The tournament attracted 33 players in the open category section and over twenty in the U10, U13, U16 category.
