Catholic, Orthodox and Anglican Prelates have asked Ugandans to turn from their evil ways and embrace a new culture of love, tolerance and reverence for God.

The prelates made their counsel during the ecumenical prayers for the Public Way of the Cross at Old Kampala Sports Ground on Good Friday. The celebrations were in commemoration of Jesus' passion and death.

Delivering his sermon during the ecumenical service, the Orthodox Archbishop, Jonah Lwanga, asked Christians and all Ugandans to live out the values of Christianity without any hypocrisy.

"It is not enough for us to be ethical. We need that radical conversion which will help us to be guided by the Spirit of God in all our actions.  The fact that we continue to hate and kill our brethren, the rampant cases of rape, defilement and ritual murders all prove beyond doubt that we have not fully assimilated the Gospel values. Let us be people of the Spirit so that we become free," Lwanga said.

In his message delivered for him by his Vicar-General, Msgr. Charles Kasibante, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Kampala, Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga also encouraged Christians to emulate the agape love that Jesus projected when he suffered and died on the cross to redeem mankind.

"It is not enough to carry the Cross in public. We need to harmonise our relationship with one another. We also need to live out the Christian values of honesty, responsibility and respect for human life."
