He dismissed the allegations saying they were made to tarnish his image

The youth of Acowa Sub County in Amuria district have accused the sub county chief for allegedly soliciting bribes from the youth group beneficiaries of the Youth Livelihood Program.

Apiro Egau came into the spotlight after last week's arrest of members of five youth groups in Acowa who failed to repay the funds from the program given to them in the financial year 2015/16.

The youth upon arrest told New Vision that they never received the money in full as contained in the documents at the sub county.

Preferring anonymity, the youth said Egau deducted between sh100,000 and sh200,000 from each group as kickback to appreciate him for his efforts.

"We received only sh6.9m out of the sh7m that we were supposed to have received" said Joseph Okello, the secretary of Ajeleik Youth Welding Association.

Egau dismissed the allegations saying they were made to tarnish his image.

"When the horse is breathing its last, you have to be so sceptical otherwise you will die by its kick" Egau said.
