Councillors from different sub-counties in Katakwi district have challenged government to consider paying them a salary.

This was raised during a meeting between councillors and the Minister for State and Disaster Preparedness, Musa Ecweru, at the district boardroom on Tuesday.

Moses Okali the Speaker of Katakwi Town Council said majority of them cannot afford clothes that would enable them look smart before their voters, a thing he says causes shame to leaders.

He called on government to devise mechanisms of support them so that their welfare is also catered for by Local Government.

Ecweru in his response said he will soon organize a meeting between LC5 chairpersons, district speakers and some of the government officials to devise strategies for improving welfare of the councillors.

"But as councillors try what you can to look for ways of earning a living other than just asking for support from government" Ecweru stated.
