On interrogation, Bisanga told police that the fuel which was in his possession had been stolen from Chinese Railway Seventh Group

The police in Kamwenge district are holding a businessman and three others for stealing fuel belonging to the Chinese Railway Seventh Group that is constructing the Fort Portal-Kamwenge road.

John Oyese the District Police Commander (DPC) Kamwenge has identified the suspects as Bisanga Perez, Mukaja Silver, Kyemogezi Allan and Akatabira Fuljensi all residents of Kamwenge town council.

They were arrested during a police operation after 4 jerricans of petrol were found inside Bisanga's shop.

On interrogation, Bisanga told police that the fuel which was in his possession had been stolen from Chinese Railway Seventh Group.

"Bisanga led us to the arrest of Mukanja and Akantabira who have been employees of the Chinese Railway Seventh Group" Oyese said.

Mukanja has been working as a security guard while Akantabira has been working as a driver. The duo is believed to have been conniving to steal and sell off the company's fuel on black market.

According to police, the four will all be arraigned in courts of law to answer charges of theft.

According to the DPC, the operation followed a number of complaints by the contractor on the theft of the company fuel.

Elijah Biryabalema the Resident District Commissioner Kamwenge told the New Vision that more police operations will be carried out.

"It is unfortunate that the locals here are the ones sabotaging the government program of constructing a good tarmac road in the area" Biryabalema said.
