Lightning strikes Mpigi man dead

Residents of Namasawo village, Buwama Sub County in Mpigi district were left in shock after lightning struck dead one of their own amid Monday evening drizzles.

The victim, 50-year-old Titus Lubega, had been a resident of the village for over 30 years.

The shocking incident happened on Monday evening at around 6pm according to the residents.

Paul Mawanda, one of Lubega's neighbours said he saw Lubega standing at the door to his house carrying one of his daughters shortly before the lightning struck.

"I saw him standing in his house door entrance carrying his young daughter just minutes before the lightning struck him" Mawanda said.

He went ahead to say that he was surprised lightning struck Lubega when the downpour wasn't heavy.

"It has never happened to our village. We have been hearing such incidents elsewhere but not on our village. This has left us in real shock" he added.

Police detectives from Buwama Police Station led by Titus Byaruhanga visited the scene and allowed the relatives of the deceased to take the body for burial.
