She added that they have started investigations into the matter and hunting for the mother of the baby to be charged accordingly.

Iganga Main Hospital is stuck with a three day old baby girl who was abandoned by her mother in a taxi.

The unidentified woman abandoned the baby in a taxi which was travelling from Kampala to Busia on Tuesday.

She left the baby with one of the passengers saying she was going to ease herself but she never returned.

Lillian Nangala, the passenger, said they shared a seat with the mother all the way from Kampala but when vehicle stopped at Musita trading centre for one of the passengers to disembark, she gave her the baby to relieve herself but didn't come back.

The taxi waited for almost 30 minutes before the rest of the passengers as well as the taxi operators ordered Nangala disembark and wait for the mother. She was left on the road side alone with the baby.

Nangala who was travelling from Mpigi to Iganga, waited for almost an hour and searched for the mother nearby but she could not trace her.

She then went to Iganga Central Police Station where she made a statement on the matter and the baby was later taken to Iganga Hospital for medical attention.

Florence Agilong, the officer in charge of child and family unit at Iganga Police, condemned the mother for abandoning her baby.
