Over 700 pupils of Kakure Primary School in Kakure Sub County in Kaberamaido district are stranded after a heavy downpour blew classroom roofs off three weeks ago.

Sam Odongo the deputy head teacher said since then the classrooms have not been re-roofed leaving the pupils with no option but to study under trees.

"We are appealing to government to come to our aid" Odongo stated.

Emmy Olaboro, the district disaster management committee chairperson said they wrote to the Office of the Prime Minister for support but nothing has been done yet.

"The school indeed needs urgent intervention but as a district we have nothing at our hands for supporting Kakure Primary School" Odongo stated.

New Vision caught up with David Elvis Okusa one of the learners who expressed the need for urgent intervention to enable them succeed in academics.

"We are disturbed by wind and dust since we are next to the road connecting Kaberamaido district to Soroti town. Even when it rains we are forced to run to our homes for shelter" Okusa added.
