Do not waste money on graduation parties - Minister

However in an era where universities and institutes keep churning out many graduates, some of who fail to get immediate employment, Rosemary Seninde the state Minister for Primary Education has advised parents not to waste money holding these parties.

"Save that money you would have spent on parties to invest in what your children have learnt in terms of start-up kits," Seninde said.

She made the remarks at the 6th graduation ceremony of the Nakawa Vocational Training Institute (NVTI) on Friday.

A total of 1726 students were awarded certificates in electronics, electricity, machining and fitting, motor vehicle mechanics, wood working, welding and fabrication, plumbing and sheet metal, building and auto electrical.

The institute also awarded diplomas in vocational training instructions to instructor managers and training. 

NVTI was established in 1968 and officially commissioned on 9 October 1971, more than 45 years ago through a bilateral cooperation between governments of Uganda and Japan.

Speaking at the ceremony, Godfrey Muwanga the institute's principal said the institute has since transformed into a skills development institutions targeting pre-employment youths, workers of industries, instructors and managers of BTVET institutions.
