UN chief condemns Sweden truck attack

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres on Friday condemned the attack in Sweden by a truck driver who slammed into a crowd on a busy street in central Stockholm.

Guterres expressed hope that those responsible for the attack face justice.

"We condemn the violent attack in Stockholm today," he said in a statement.

Guterres expressed sympathy for the victims' families, saying the United Nations stands in solidarity with Sweden.

"We hope that those responsible for the attack will be swiftly brought to justice," he added.

The truck slammed into a crowd of people outside a busy department store in central Stockholm, causing deaths.

Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven said "everything points to a terror attack."
