The program will feature the first female body builder

The BBC World Service is in Uganda today to broadcast live a dynamic 60-second news blast targeting younger audiences around the world using XFM studios.

Dubbed 'BBC Minute', the vibrant news show summarises news headlines and topical stories which are relevant to young people and delivered in a style that entertains as well as educates and informs.

Hosted by Debula Kemoli, the blast is broadcast twice an hour, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by a team of journalists in London.

The eight man crew of journalists will partner with three stations - XFM in Kampala, Victoria FM in Jinja and King FM in Gulu.

The team will broadcast for 24 hours from Kampala; beginning at 8am from the XFM studios before heading to Makerere University later in the day according to assistant editor Chris Gibson.

Gibson also stressed that there will be two BBC Minute bulletins each day, elaborating on one particular news item or topic of interest from the latest tech and business to science, fitness and the trends behind the headlines.

Bill Tibingana the head of radios at Vision Group welcomed the partnership.

"BBC Minute delivers impartial news coverage to young Ugandans who are curious about the world and eager to stay up to speed on the latest breaking news, sport and entertainment" he said.

"Uganda being the second youngest country in the world, this partnership helps us to break down the hard core BBC news to a more entertaining format for the youth," Tibingana added.

The BBC Minute will also feature the first female body builder, the Ugandan Love for the English Premier League and the life of a student at university.
