Chinese with no passports, work permits arrested in Mayuge

MAYUGE - Immigration and Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) officials raided a Chinese construction company camp along Musita-Lumino road and arrested Chinese nationals without passports and work permits in Mayuge district.

As many as 16 were arrested in the Thursday early morning bust.

Others first locked themselves in their rooms, fearing arrest.

The company is China Railway 18th Bureau Group Co. Ltd which was contracted to construct the 104km Musita-Lumino-Majanji-Busia road.

Immigration officials carried out verification of travel documents of some of the Chinese.

Some 16 Chinese workers were arrested at the company's main camp in Kyebando village in Mayuge town council while 22 others were arrested at the quarry.

Two teams effected the arrest.
