The Mufti of Uganda Sheikh Shaban Mubajje has commended Sheikhs for supporting the various reforms that have made Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) stronger and more successful.

Mubajje made the remarks while opening the meeting of the members of Majilis Al-Ulama (College of Sheikhs) at the UMSC headquarters in Old Kampala on Tuesday.

The Mufti, who is also the chairman of Majilis Al-Ulama, however, noted that some of the reforms had not gone down well with some individuals.

In a UMSC statement issued by spokesperson, Haji Nsereko Mutumba, Mubajje singled out the ongoing drive to reclaim UMSC properties, especially land.

He noted that some individuals are acting suspiciously since the drive was launched. He, however, did not name the individuals.

Cautions on closing schools

Mubajje also repeated his call to government not to close schools that are serving needy communities.

"The authorities must be considerate when closing the schools so that children do not miss classes and parents do not lose their hard earned fees that they had paid," he said.

He also urged authorities to put in place measures that will ensure the safety of the people and their properties.
