A teacher attached to Moroto Nursery and Primary School has been jailed for attempted escape from custody.

Charles Okwii was sentenced to four months imprisonment at Moroto Central Government Prison by Moroto Magistrate Charles Yeteise.

Court heard that Okwii had been taken to Moroto Referral Hospital to ascertain his HIV status after he was allegedly caught last week defiling a 15-year-old girl.

The incident happened in one of the Moroto Police Barracks unipots where school authorities had provided as his place of abode.

Okwii who had been handcuffed at the hospital asked a Police officer to allow him drink a soda brought in by a relative and he took the opportunity to escape.

He was later arrested in Camp Swahili a busy commercial hub in Moroto Municipality.

Okwii who pleaded innocence and was remanded on a defilement charge, will soon begin defence in the case after serving the sentence for unlawful escape while under arrest.
