Two arrested over defilement

According to Faizol Kulabako, the LC1 chairperson for Namwoba village, Kafuko allegedly defiled the girl in a bush when she was coming from school.

The police in Mayuge district are holding two men for allegedly defiling girls aged eight and 12.

The Mayuge district police commander Denis Odoch, identified the suspect as Sadama Makubo, 29, a resident of Maumu A village and Kafuko Mukata, 29, a resident of Namwoba village in Busakira sub county, Mayuge district.

The duo was arrested on Wednesday morning after their area local councils reported the matter to police.

According to Faizol Kulabako, the LC1 chairperson for Namwoba village, Kafuko allegedly defiled the girl in a bush when she was coming from school.

"When the girl was from school, she met Kafuko and he allegedly defiled her in a nearby bush," Kulabako said adding that the girl reports that she was given Shs. 500 by the defiler and told her never to reveal any matter to her family members.

Kulabako said that due to unbearable pain, the girl narrated her ordeal to the mother who reported the matter to him.

Odoch said that Makubo allegedly defiled his niece when the parents had gone to attend a funeral rite in Kaluba village in Busakira.

"He was left to take care of his eight-year-old niece but he instead defiled her,"   Odoch said adding that the girl made an alarm as the uncle was defiling her which attracted the nearby neighbours.

Odoch said that Makubo was rescued from being lynched by the angry neighbours by the LC1 chairperson Abdul Kisoma, who informed the police.

Odoch decried the increasing cases of defilement in the district. He noted that some of the defilement cases are involving parents and relatives. He said over 300 cases of defilement are reported annually.
