The Vice Chancellor is appointed by the Chancellor on the recommendation of the University Council

The fate of three candidates who have for long, expressed interest in becoming Kyambogo University's Vice Chancellor is set to be decided in a few hours.

In an ongoing meeting by the University Council, one of Professors Eli Katunguka, Geoffrey Bakunda or Aaron Wanyama will become the next institution's Vice Chancellor, New Vision has learnt.

Katunguka is the current acting Vice Chancellor, Bakunda the Makerere University Business School deputy principal while Wanyama is the former dean of the Faculty of Science at Kyambogo.

"Council is sitting this morning, to discuss the two names it will forward to the University Chancellor," a source who preferred anonymity said.

According to the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act, 2001, the Vice Chancellor is appointed by the Chancellor on the recommendation of the University Council from among three candidates recommended by the Senate.

Established in 2003, Kyambogo University has had past acting Vice Chancellors who include Dr. John Opuda-Asibo who assumed office following the suspension of Prof Isaiah Omolo Ndiege and Prof Fabian Nabugomu who is the University's Vice Chancellor in charge of Finance and Administration (also known as First Deputy VC).

However efforts to install a substantive Vice Chancellor for the University have in the recent past flopped due to many irregularities.
