Nominations for the Kamuli Municipality by-election will be held on March 23rd

Rehema Watongola has clinched the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party nomination ahead of the forthcoming Kamuli Municipality by-election.

Watongola won with 5351 votes while her nearest competitor Masitula Namatovu polled 2477 votes.

The other contenders; Samuel Walujjo got 296 votes, Godfrey Mwesige 131, Sanubi Namusisi 145 and Ceasar Lukalu trailed with 109 votes.

Watongola lost her seat following a Court of Appeal ruling that challenged her academic credentials.

However, in 2016, Watongola sat for A' Level, and she has since been cleared by the Electoral Commission (EC) to contest again.

Nominations for the Kamuli Municipality by-election will be held on March 23rd.

In yet another battle for the seat, Wantogola, will face-off with Salaamu Musumba, the eastern region Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) vice chairperson.

Musumba challenged Watongola's 2016 victory in court and won the case.

The EC has set April 12th for the Kamuli Municipality by-election.
