Parliament's Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has announced that it will begin to name and shame accounting officers who swindle public funds.

PAC chairperson Angelina Osege and her deputy Gerald Karuhanga told the media on Monday that whereas so many accounting officers are implicated in the Auditor General's reports, they have not been sacked by the appointing authority.

"The secretary to the treasury and the appointing authority have powers to discipline accounting officers who swindle public funds but they have not done it," Osege said.

"Instead they are recycled from one entity to another. Punishing such officers will make a big difference," she added.

The PAC leaders have been talking about their findings in the 2014/2015 report on the health sector.

They indicated they had discovered a lot of cases of accounting officers mischarging/diverting funds into unauthorized expenditures.
