'KCCA approves' Parkyard, Nakivubo Stadium redevelopment plans

Mar 15, 2017

The stadium spokesperson Ahmed Bogere Masembe also confirmed this development.

Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) say they have approved plans for the re-development of Nakivubo War Memorial Stadium and Parkyard Market.

This follows Minister of Kampala Beti Kamya's directive to KCCA to release the plans and holding on to the  permit to the developer to prevent an influx of illegal vendors from the premises.

Kamya says Nakivubo Stadium is a government facility under supervision of the ministry of education and sports and not KCCA.

The stadium spokesperson Ahmed Bogere Masembe confirmed the development.

But Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago says "it is not true" that the plans have been approved.

He has condemned the minister's directive and called a special council meeting to deliberate on the matter .

"Of course this is not true. At least many of you were there in the Authority meeting. We asked the technical team whether they had approved the plans for Ham and they were on record, saying that up to now, Ham has no approved plans," said Lukwago in the wake of the development.

"How can the minister tell blatant lies, moreover in writing? I have called for an Authority meeting to handle this very, very important matter and to take drastic measures."
