KAMPALA - Over 1000 runners including individuals and the corporate world braved the morning chilly weather and conquered Kampala's historical seven hills on Sunday, all in the name of charity.

Their efforts were worthwhile as three KCCA public schools are set to get a major transformation after the runners raised sh131m from the second edition of the NSSF Kampala Hash Seven Hills Run in Kampala.

Proceeds will go towards renovation of Makerere University Primary School, and Summit View Army Primary School and completion of works at Nakivubo Settlement Primary School.

Former women's 3000m steeplechase world and Commonwealth Games champion Dorcus Inzikuru and Uganda's only medalist at the Rio's Summer Paralympic Games David Emong gave a good account of themselves in the event.

They led their categories in the race that traversed the historical seven hills of Kampala - Nakasero, Kibuli, Old Kampala, Namirembe, Rubaga, Lubiri and Nsambya.

NSSF Deputy Managing Director Geraldine Ssali thanked all participants and urged them to return for next year's race that has seen an increment of 600 runners this year.

"We are very great full that you have made it for this run. This is one of the noblest causes that NSSF has decided to take a lead on because we have so many corporate companies that have come to join us," she said.

"We have so many schools in Kampala that are in dire need of help so we have committed to undertake this initiative for three years; and the run is just beginning to pick so we expect so many other corporate companies and several individuals to come on board.

"We welcome you back next year as we help develop our future leaders of our primary schools," said Ssali.

Corporate companies that contributed to the cause include; Vision Group, Uganda Revenue Authority, Uganda Registration Services Bureau, Bank of Uganda, Capital Markets Authority, Housing Finance Bank, Monitor Publications Limited, Galaxy FM, Umeme Limited, Stanbic bank, Selas Events Ltd, Fireworks Advertising Uganda Limited, Centenary Bank, Computer Point, Total Uganda, Vodafone Uganda, Toyota Uganda, ICPAU, Kampala Water, Interswitch Uganda, Cementers, Blu Flamingo, Ipsos, Multichoice Uganda.
