Bill Winston calls heavens down at Kampala Serena

Mar 10, 2017

When Dr. Bill, the renowned international evangelist, took to the stage inside the Victoria Ball Room at the Kampala Serena Hotel Wednesday night, he literally took over. All eyes and ears were on him.

It is not for nothing he is Dr. Bill Winston. Like Richard Branson, that English business magnet and philanthropist would say, he is very good. Yeah, you read it right. The man of God is very good.

When Dr. Bill, the renowned international evangelist, took to the stage inside the Victoria Ball Room at the Kampala Serena Hotel Wednesday night, he literally took over. All eyes and ears were on him.

None in the hundreds of born-again faithful that had inundated the convention centre to just get a glimpse of this phenomenal man could afford to blink or turn their heads even for just a second, lest they missed a word from this genuine orator of an evangelist.

And it is not like he over emphasised those bible lines, like many other pastors we are used to do. No. His was a rare blend, a fusion of the bible lines and those issues that are relevant to the ordinary man.

He talked the power of faith and demonstrated how it can move mountains. He talked those issues that weigh us down, that make us feel inadequate and failures, those stresses that make us doubt our potential and twisted them to give new hope that as sure we were children of God we were destined for greatness, and things beautiful.

At this point all the faithful in the room stood up, raised their hands and started proclaiming AMEN!

It was beautiful. If you didn't attend you missed. There is a story of a poor woman in the United States and her conviction to see her son through school that the evangelist concluded with. When a miracle happened and the poor boy got a scholarship, tears were welling in the faithful's eyes. That is how good Dr. Bill was.

Born in Tuskegee, Alabama, US, the evangelist is a testimony himself.  From serving as a fighter pilot in the United States Air Force and a man who made a living selling computers for IBM, it is beyond imagination that Bill is now a preacher, author, a visionary leader and a business entrepreneur.  He is the founder and senior pastor of Living Word Christian Centre in Illinois Chicago.

He is also the founder of the Bill Winston Ministries and founder and president of the nationally accredited Joseph Business School (JBS), which teaches ‘making money the Christian way'.  The school embraces practical and biblical principles to empower adults to develop indispensable skills as successful entrepreneurs and business leaders.

On Wednesday night, the man of God testified how he rose from that ‘nobody kid in the neighbourhood' to a pastor who presides over a church of over 15,000 members and has entrepreneurship schools strewn in all the five continents.

And the good news is his Joseph Business School (JBS) is coming to Uganda, pending a few technicalities, he pledged.

Pastor Joshua Serwadda from the national fellowship of born-again and Pentecostal churches in Uganda welcomed the evangelist to Uganda.

The fellowship was also graced by state minister for tourism Godfrey Kiwanda Suubi and Forum for Democratic Change Party President Gen. Mugisha Muntu among others.

Bill Winston, who had touched down at Entebbe aboard his private jet hours earlier (from Tanzania), spoke to the faithful that they were born to be eagles - thus to fly and not to stagnate and dwell in self-pity and live a life of poverty.

The fellowship started about 6:00pm. By 4:00, all cars had been leading to the Kampala Serena. Bishop Godfrey Luwagga ‘curtain-raised' for Bill Winston in front of the anxious and jubilant born-again youth and men and women who couldn't wait for the star guest.

There were songs of worship, including that Michael W. Smith sensation Mighty to Save and the legendary Hossana.

As men and women elsewhere celebrated the International Women's Day, here were faithful celebrating joy and the love of Jesus Christ and faith, but also Women's Day.

The evangelist flew out of Kampala later in the night.
