Security chiefs are to review the progress of the implementation of KICD since it was inaugurated in 2010
African security chiefs from over 30 countries are meeting in Kampala for the 6th Kigali International Conference Declaration (KICD) an annual two-day meeting to deliberate on increasing Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWGs).
The meeting held under the theme: "Combating Violence against Women and Girls: The role of Security Organs and Community" is to come up with best practices and tactics on how to combat the vice, with security organs in the lead.
The chiefs are to review the progress of the implementation of KICD since it was inaugurated in 2010.
Inspector General of Police, Gen. Kale Kayihura who became the new chair of KICD, told delegates at Serena Hotel on Monday that all forces in different countries need to work together to end the vice.
"We need a concrete agenda to build on what has been achieved to actualize our objectives to end this. We need to strengthen mobilisation and sensitization on the fight against VAWGs through the various countries' policies," he noted.
He said all the security personnel at all levels need to understand the concept if they achieve the objectives.
Kayihura said all countries should collaborate in information and data sharing for effectiveness and start national campaigns about the vice.
Internal affairs state minister, Obiga Kania decried the increasing cases of VAWGs, saying something needs to be done.
"You should translate the resolutions from this meeting into programs to fight this vice to protect our mothers, daughter and sisters," he noted.
