Indian appointed Uganda's ambassador

The newly commissioned consulate of the republic of Uganda to Mumbai in India, Honorary Consul, Madhusudan Agrawal has pledged to market Uganda in Western India as well as attract more investments to Uganda from India as one of the ways to bridge the trade imbalance between the two countries.

Agrawal is Co- founder and Vice Chairman of Ajanta Pharma Ltd, which is a house hold name today in Uganda. Incorporated in India 43 years ago, Ajanta Pharma Ltd has been operating in Uganda since 1998 dealing   mainly in anti-malaria medicine among others.

Speaking at  the foreign affairs ministry in Kampala where he presented his credentials , consul Agrawal said  during his tenure, he would like to attract investment in the areas of medical, agro processing, tourism, steel processing, plastic, solar industries and  education services.

He also intends to do philanthropic work in Uganda in health care and education. Agrwal, met vice president. Edward Ssekandi and also had the opportunity to welcome vice-president of India, H.E. Mohammad Hamid Ansari who is on a Visit to Uganda.

Uganda's high commissioner in New Delhi-India, Elizabeth Paula Napeyok commended Agrwal's appointment saying he is an asset to Uganda since he is a reputable business man in Mumbai and western India.

She urged Ugandans to produce more and quality agro product to be supplied to the industries for processing.

"India has a wider market for Ugandan products and calls upon Ugandans to take up such opportunities to help increase on the country's export in a bid to balance trade," Napyeok said.

For improved bi-lateral relations between the countries, Uganda is planning to open up two more Honorary consuls in India- Kolkata and Chennai.
