A mob on Sunday evening attacked three people suspected of impersonating UMEME officials.
The mob also set a blaze their double cabin pickup truck UAL 003D after they were reportedly found vandalizing electricity wires in a section of power in Makauri village, Kisoko Sub County in Tororo.
The officer in charge of Kisoko Police Post, Silifano Were, said that the mob descended on the suspects after they failed to identify themselves.
He said the suspects reportedly went to the area at 8pm after the area experienced load shedding which attracted suspicion from the residents. A number of electric lines have been vandalized in the Sub County.
The officer added that before the mob started beating them, they posed as employees of ‘ENRON power supply company’ that they claimed to have been contracted by Electricity Regulatory Authority to maintain rural electricity power lines in the area and that they were inspecting faulty lines.
Were said on realizing danger, they managed to take off abandoning their vehicle that was later set ablaze by the mob.
An eye witnesses said one of the suspects was removing electricity wires from the poles while the others were busy folding and stashing the wires onto the car.
One of the victims of the mob action, Emmanuel Akol, told police that they were on their routine duty of inspecting faulty sections of their power lines to ensure that their clients don’t experience load shedding again.
Load shedding is however not caused by faulty power lines.
Police said none of the men are under arrest but they are still investigating to ascertain the authenticity of their claims.
