The Deputy Speaker of parliament Jacob Oulanyah has suspended today's plenary sitting over absence of committee chairpersons and ministers who were responsible for the business on the order paper.

The sitting had started with only 13 MPs out of the total of 431 legislators. Out of over 80 ministers, only the state minister for internal affairs Kania Obiga was present

Even the key leaders of the opposition including the opposition Chief Whip Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, the shadow attorney general Wilfred Nuwagaba and the Leader of Opposition Winnie Kiiza were not present.

Dismayed by the situation in the house, Lira woman MP Joy Atim said, " I think it is in the mindset of members that they always have to come late. It is important to cause shame on them by suspending the sitting."
