LC1 elections to be held in March

State minister for local government Jennifer Namuyangu has announced that local council elections will be held before March 15.
She also said elections for women councils will be held on the same day.

Namuyangu made the remarks during the Advocates Coalition on Development and Environment (ACODE) breakfast meeting in Kampala on Friday morning.
She said the government has made enough consultations and that the budget for the elections has been reduced to sh10b from sh27b.
However, the executive director of the Human Right Initiative, Livingstone Sewanyana, said that the people have not been given enough time to carry out civic education.

The President General of the Democratic Party, Norbert Mao, said the elections have taken a longtime to be carried out. He said the issue of lining up during the election has not been resolved, which will not give people an opportunity to express free will during the elections.
