Police launches manhunt for Lwakataka

The Sheema DPC, Innocent Mubangizi, has already been arrested for having released the rally driver

Police has launched a manhunt for rally driver Ponsiano Lwakataka who was released illegally from custody. 

Lwakataka was allegedly found in the possession of immature fish by Uganda Revenue Authority agents and he threatened one of them with his gun before trying to escape with the help Sheema District Police Commander, Innocent Mubangizi. 

After the incident, the Inspector General of Police, Gen. Kale Kayihura, suspended Mubangizi over misuse of power and abating crime. 

Police spokesperson Andrew Felix Kaweesi said the missing Lwakataka now faces charges of threatening violence and smuggling. 

"Lwakataka is still at large but Police is going to re-arrest him to answer for the crimes he committed. One is threatening violence and the other is smuggling" Kaweesi said.

He further added that Mubangizi had already been arrested for releasing Lwakataka on bond without charging him. 

"The DPC was arrested and he is going to face charges which maybe disciplinary or criminal for having aided Lwakataka leave the Police station after he was apprehended" he said.
