The Namilyango College's long serving head teacher Edward Muguluma has handed over to his successor Constantine Mpuuga.

Muguluma on Monday handed over handed over the administration of Namilyango College, the country's pioneer secondary school at a colourful ceremony that was witnessed by Mukono District Education officer (DEO), Vincent Baraza, the college Chairman Board of Governors /Vicar General Lugazi Diocese Msgr.  Dr.  Richard Kayondo and the parish priest Fr. Ignatius Kivumbi.

Others at the ceremony included the college Chaplain Fr. Joseph N. Wamala, PTA Board Chairperson, Nalyanya Matthias, PTA executive members, Old boys/NACOBA Chairperson Fred Kyaka Gyaviira, Old boys representatives including Norbert Mao, teachers and staff members of the college.

According to statement issued by the Old Boys publicist, Andrew Bazanye, the search for Muguluma's successor "has been intense to ensure the college gets a replacement of a high performance track record and in possession of values worthy of the college's proud tradition."

The board chairman Msgr.  Richard Kayondo said he was happy to announce that this search was successful and the Ministry of Education was acknowledged for the subsequent appointment of Mr. Constantine Mpuuga.

"Mr. Mpuuga was spotted for his impeccable experience in transforming Catholic founded colleges like; St. Bernard's S.S, Mannya, Rakai District, he successfully served as a Deputy Headmaster at Trinity College Nabbingo among others. Mr. Mpuuga is an old boy as well who attended his UACE at the College," the statement added.

It added that the college has also received a multi skilled female deputy Mrs. Margaret Namagembe Kyambadde who has also delivered impressive results in St. Peter's S. S, Nkokonjeru, Buikwe District and other catholic founded institutions.

"Having served the college for over 14 years, (November 2002 to December 2016), Muguluma was applauded for his tremendous contribution to the college that has enabled it to stay at the top," the statement said.

Muguluma assumed office at a time when the College's reputation had slackened in both discipline and academics. His selfless efforts reversed the college to its glory and the improvement has been steady with an average academic performance of between 85%-95% first grades in UCE while registering 95% and above of UACE students who continue to qualify for tertiary education.

Muguluma was also acknowledged for being vigilant on structural developments that included; tarmacking and maintenance of the Seeta-Namilyango Road, construction of staff quarters, dormitories and class rooms. He was commended for working closely with the old boys who have contributed greatly to these developments.

Muguluma made mention of a couple of challenges that included; maintaining the academic standards, upgrading the aging school structures and competing with private schools that can stretch their limits with minimum restrictions among others.

The DEO Vincent Baraza advised the in-coming head teacher to continue working closely with the old boys who have done a tremendous job to uphold the college with their personal resources. He said the discipline that has been restored should be upheld.

 Msgr. Kayondo said the board and the PTA are confident that the college will continue to grow stronger with the sound systems in place." He appreciated Muguluma for the sacrifice he has invested to establish the college to where it is to-date. He welcomed Mr. Mpuuga with the assurance that the college will stay at the apex of the educational pyramid.
