Nyakana, Tumwine thrown out of UOC elections

UOC will hold its elections on January 28 at the Uganda Olympic Committee offices in Lugogo.

The Uganda Olympic committee (UOC) returning officer Sim Katende has disqualified four candidates including Godfrey Nyakana and William Tumwine from standing for the post of vice president and secretary general respectively.

Nyakana, a former Uganda Boxing Federation president was disqualified on grounds that Uganda Table Tennis Club that nominated him is not recognised by UOC and the same was also with Tumwine.

Tumwine who was in 2011 suspended by UOC assembly for allegedly messing up the Ugandan team in the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games had been nominated for the post of secretary general.

The others who were disqualified include Solomon Muwonge and Hakim Kato who wanted to be voted as ordinary executive members.

Those who have been cleared for elections include, William Blick and Dennis Mbidde for the post of President, Dr.Donald Rukare is now unopposed for the post of secretary general, Ambrose Tashobya is unopposed for the  post of first vice president.

Beatrice Ayikoru is unopposed for the post of second vice President, Godfrey Nuwagaba is unopposed for treasurer; Hilary Kimbugwe will battle it out with Dunstan Busulwa for assistant secretary post while Moses Mwase, Sadik Nasiwu and Patrick Ogwel are vying for ordinary executive positions.
