Assistant Inspector General of Police Andrew Sorowen has urged youngsters intending to pursue sports careers to ensure they remain disciplined and stay off drugs.

Sorowen was addressing young footballers before he launched the second edition of the Uganda Youth Football League Inter Cities U-17 Youth football tournament at Naguru on Thursday.

"Let me assure you, you'll never succeed without discipline. So avoid alcohol, smoking, booze as this can destroy your life very fast," Sorowen cautioned.

"And you must go to school; take you your education seriously too, eat proper food but ensure discipline on and off the pitch and exhibit fair play. After University you can then be assimilated into the forces as you continue pursuing your talents," Sorowen advised.

Munyonyo's Abdallah Katamba scored a hat-trick against Rivaldo FC in one of the opening games of the two-day preliminaries played at different Centers of Excellence.

Katwe United were also 2-0 winners over Elgon Academy through Isma Mawanda and Huzairu Ntale goals.

At Naguru SC Jovans from Kitintale drew 1-1 with Naguru Police Kids before Police Junior beat Kyambogo's Ssebowa FC 2-1. Emma Iyeset grabbed a brace for the Kids with Joseph Kasagga netting Ssebowa's consolation.

Super Bullets were also 2-1 winners over Nakawa, with James Mukiibi and Ian Magumba getting the goals for Bullets. Baker Mujabi scored for Nakawa.

Brian Kizito and Joseph Kibalama also got maximum points for Elliot Soccer Academy and High Flyer against USPAS and Barcelona respectively in Nabweru, where Breeze FC were also 1-0 winners over the Brazil Academy.

After Friday's last round of matches top teams will prepare for the national championship 'champions league' in Kampala due, January 15-20. The tournament is supported by UK based Manby Family Fund.

Outstanding players from the tournament will be selected to represent the country at the Gothia Cup in Sweden and the Dubai Super Cups between March and May this year.
