Ndejje delighted to host Inter-University Games

"All they need are the playing venues and yet we have enough," says vice chancellor Prof. Eriabu Lugujjo.

The withdrawal of Bishop Stuart University, Mbarara as hosts of this year's Inter-University Games seems to have come as a blessing in disguise to regional champions Ndejje University.

Bishop Stuart pulled out due to incomplete facilities, confirming them unable to host the various sport disciplines ahead of the 17th edition slated for December.

But Ndejje University's vice chancellor Prof. Eriabu Lugujjo is convinced that the five-time East Africa University Games champions have all required facilities and plan to also have the event as a climax of a series of events as they mark their silver jubilee.

"There are no financial implications involved in hosting this event. All they need are the playing venues and yet we have enough," said Lugujjo.

"Following a number of success stories, I think this will be the right avenue to give other local universities reason to also invest in sports."

Ndejje has previously hosted the inter-university games twice - in 2005 and 2011. They have won the games three times locally and are also five-time East Africa University games champions.

Their recent achievement was in December last year when they retained the regional title after securing 36 gold, 28 bronze and 30 silver at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology in Kenya.

"We are pleased that Association of Uganda University Sports (AUUS) gave us the mandate to host this event," said the university's publicist Collins Ssemmanda.

"We plan to host the best and well organized edition because it is the event that will wrap up a series of planned events as we celebrate our silver jubilee."

The week-long contest is expected to attract over 3000 participants from about 24 institutions countrywide.
