As the adage goes, ‘days of a thief are always numbered', luck ran out of one of suspected city car thieves, Frank Kyazze.

Kyazze, 25, who washes cars at Mulago opposite Mulago referral hospital, was rescued by the Central Police Station (CPS) policemen from an angry mob that had started beating him up for attempting to steal a saloon car, Toyota Premio.

According to Kampala metropolitan spokesperson, Emilian Kayima, one Kisitu (the rightful owner of car) had parked his car at Pine Car Depot, meters away from the Central Police Station (CPS) and after 30 minutes, Kyazze arrived on a Boda boda, opened and wanted to speed off.

"A suspecting Askari nearby confronted Kyazze and wanted to know why he wanted to take the car yet it had been left there by a different person. Kyazze said a one Yasin had sent him to pick it and take it for washing and it is at this point when the mob started beating him up before we rescued him," Kayima explained.

Kyazze who did not have any identification, maintained that Yasin always sends him with keys to pick cars from various parking lots in Kampala to take them for washing and he (Yasin) picks them.

Kyazze said that he cannot locate Yasin because they only meet at the washing bays.

However, Kayima noted that Kyazze is part of a bigger racket that targets cars in various parking yards around Kampala.

"He is part of a bigger racket and they specialize in stealing cars parked in various parking yards in Kampala and hopefully he will help us net other members," Kayima stressed.

Many cars especially saloon cars are stolen from various parking lots around the city and other area and many end up in the neighbouring countries like Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan, Kenya among others but many more are dismantled and sold in spare parts.
