Wrestling and Omweso excite Busoga

Omweso is a traditional board game of the Ugandan people.

It   was a mixture of nerves and excitement as locals enjoyed the Omweso board game competition, the first of its kind to be organized in Busoga under the reign of Kyabazinga William Gabula Nadiope IV.

Eight people participated in the Omweso competition that was organized by Busoga Kingdom at Bugembe Stadium on Saturday.

During the knockout stage, Yasin Pande beat Asman Kanabo 3-0 points, Faridit Kayiwa beat Rwebo Katego 6-0, Twaha Bukumunhe beat Nasser Mukisa 6-1 and Laston Bukala beat Denis Buyinza 3-0.

 



After the knock outs, Pande, Kayiwa, Bukala and Bukumunhe sailed through to the semi-finals and Bukumunhe beat Kayiwa 2-0 well as Bukala beat Pande on 6-0 points.

Later Bukumunhe and Bukala tussled it out in the finals and Bukala beat Bukumunhe 4-0 to emerge winner of the Omweso competition.

Meanwhile, a local wrestling (Ekiggwo) competition was also organized and Luuka Chiefdom team players wrestled those of Kigulu Chiefdom.

All wrestling matches started with excitement through singing and dancing. Wrestlers danced as they prepared to take on their opponents in the game.

The team from Luuka displayed techniques in wrestling and trounced Kigulu in all the matches.
