Buganda Royal Regatta for January

Bugerere County won this year's event by 195 points edging out Kyaggwe by 5 points.

Preparations for the 2017 Buganda Royal Regatta are underway. This was confirmed by the Buganda Kingdom Minister for Youth, Sports and Recreation, Henry Sekabembe during the launch of the Regatta at Kabaka's landing site in Mulungu, Munyonyo.

"We expect to have a better event since we have started the preparations in time. We call upon everyone to join us in making this event a  success,"stated Sekabembe.

The Buganda Royal Regatta that will have participants from all the 18 counties (Masaza), will commence with preliminaries towards the end of January 2017 end on February 4th at Mulungu. Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi will grace the final day of the competitions.

The regatta will be organized with different categories of boat races such as traditional group sprints, modern canoe sprints, rowing races, long distance swimming among others. On top of that, various events such as music performances will be provided to celebrate the revival of sports.

The event at Munyonyo, Makindye Kyadondo County is under the theme "Ekitiibwa  kya Buganda: n'Ennono y' Empingu"(Reclaiming Buganda's Heritage through Water sports).

The regatta is aimed at reviving and development of water sports in Buganda Kingdom.
