Ways to celebrate the New Year's Eve

Dec 28, 2016

You might be celebrating with close friends or strangers. Either way, below are some of the activities you can engage in to have lasting memories.

The New Year's Eve is one of the most worldwide recognized holidays. Different countries celebrate in their own way. The common thread is a gratified goodbye to the previous year so you can welcome the beginning of the New Year.

You might be celebrating with close friends or strangers. Either way, below are some of the activities you can engage in to have lasting memories.

Invite people over

If you don't want crowds, just invite a few people for a small gathering at your place. If you are renting and you do not have a compound, hire gardens. You can invite a few people for a small gathering. Have games, drinks and dinner then wait to make noise at midnight. If you do not have enough money to buy drinks, request friends to come with their drinks.

Stay home alone

As everyone is planning where to go, just decide to be at home and watch a movie or read that book that you bought at the beginning of the year but you have not had time to read it. Pick your phone and wish your loved ones a happy new year. Send texts to those who have not talked to in a long time.

Visit the sick

As some people are making noise and lighting candles to end the year, go and be praying for the sick to see that they can also live to see 2017.  Be around them so that they feel loved and cared for. Encourage them and give them hope.

Go on a date

If you are in a new relationship or made a year in marriage, what is more romantic than celebrating new beginnings? Get your loved one, make a reservation in a nice hotel, cafe or restaurant and share the New Year together over a nice meal. You can follow that up with some colourful fireworks and a midnight kiss.

Or you can use the midnight hour to propose to that girl you have dated for 6years. If you are divorced, go out with your children.

Attend evening prayers

Almost all churches in the country will hold prayers, go and thank God for keeping you alive. If you think the church will be crowded at midnight, go for an evening service/mass early and leave early. Give back to God.

Go to a club

Hello, it is end of year; why not shake off that stress of 2016. Life is too short for misery. Go out and enjoy. If you are single, you might even leave the club with a future wife/husband. You do not have to go alone. Go with friends and party hard.

Visit an open event

So many hotels have organized events, visit these places and see how Ugandans celebrities dress, perform on stage. By midnight, you will even see how so many people react to fireworks. Happy New Year.
