Dec 27, 2016

Traders cried helplessly as they saw their property destroyed by fire that spread from one kiosk to another.

Property worth millions of shillings was on Monday evening reduced to ashes in a mysterious fire which gutted part of Kame Valley Market in Mukono town.

Vendors cried helplessly as they saw their property destroyed by fire that spread from one kiosk to another.

The kiosks that were destroyed included: restaurants, video libraries, saloons and motor vehicle tire outlets.

Three electricity poles were affected by the inferno and one of them fell down.

Eye witnesses could not establish the cause of the fire which went off at around 8:00pm. It was contained at around 11:00pm.

Many traders rebuked Mukono fire fighting police for taking over an hour to reach the scene.

It is a walkable distance from the Police Station to the market.

Mukono District Police commander, Boniface Kinyera, declined to comment. He said Police would first analyse the situation before addressing the media.
