Goalkeeper Rogers Omedua turns hero as Bismillah clinch maiden title.

FINAL RESULT

Bismillah FC 0 Mukalu FC 0 (Bismillah win 5-4 on penalties)

Goalkeeper Rogers Omedua saved two penalties to help Bismillah FC win the first edition of the Boban Zirintuusa Christmas Cup at Bugembe Stadium.

After normal time of the final ended goalless, a penalty shootout had to separate Bismillah and Mukalu FC.

Bismillah featured prominent Bugembe-based players still active in the top flight, including Herbert Kakande, Paulita Emenyu and Junior Mukisa.

SC Villa leftback Yeseeri Waibi and Paul Mujampani featured for Mukalu in a widely watched game.

Mukalu's Sharif Musasizi emerged as the tournament's top scorer with six goals.

Boban Zirintuusa, the competition's organizer, was delighted with the overwhelming discipline from all the 17 teams that participated.

''Bugembe originally has been a hub for generation of some of the best footballers in the history of Ugandan football but unfortunately years have gone and no one was trying to organise these prestigious Christmas tournaments that would excite fans and players," he said.

"So it's in good spirit that I have decided to organise this tournament so that we can help the young footballers to get exposed to competitive football."
