Uganda Cup: Free Stars 1 Busula 2

Dec 22, 2016

Two first half goals are enough to send Busula through.

Free Stars FC are out of the Uganda Cup after losing 1-2 to Busula in the Buganda region preliminaries at UCU.

The Mukono-based side had eliminated Bombo Young FC in their previous game while Busula had dumped out Kikyusa FC for failing to honor their fixture.

Edward Satra and Brian Kaye scored for Kiboga-based Busula while Cliff Kato was the lone scorer for the home team.

The hosts trailed early when they conceded a penalty five minutes into the game after Deo Kibirige was guilty of handling the ball in the box.

Satra stepped up and converted from the spot.

Ronald Kasango nearly leveled matters but his glancing header whistled wide.

In the 17th minute, Kaye doubled the visitors' lead after he was played in from the midfield to tap home.

The opening half was all Busula and their two-goal lead was well-deserved as the hosts failed to deal with the sustained pressure.

Free Stars returned a more reformed side, thanks to some substitutions, as they set out to overturn their deficit.

The introduction of Alex Mubeezi in the midfield changed the dimension of the game as it allowed the hosts to execute a host of attacks.

And the commitment turned into dividends as Kato pulled one back for the home side with 14 minutes to go.

Despite their continued search for an equalizer however, Free Stars were barred by time, eventually subjecting them to an early Cup exit.
