The state minister for higher education, John Chrysestom Muyingo, wants higher institutions of learning to change their curriculum and introduce practical courses that would instil skills to graduates.

He made the remarks on Thursday at the second graduation ceremony of the Insurance Institute of Uganda (IIU) that took place at Golf Course Hotel in Kampala.

Muyingo attributed the unemployment burden among graduates to lack of skills that would make them job creators instead of seekers.

"The ministry of education is mandatory to change the curriculum for primary and secondary Schools, but not higher institutions of learning. Universities and other tertiary intuitions need to introduce courses that impart practical skills to graduates," Muyingo said.

The minister urged the graduands to shun corruption adding that it has failed several government programmes which are aimed at transforming the economic and welfare of Uganda.

A total of 501 graduated at the Insurance Institute of Uganda.

During the ceremony, graduands with outstanding academic performance were awarded with money and other gifts.
