Basketball: Leadership camp to nurture the girl child

The event is aimed at exposing the young participants to the richness of their talent.

In a bid to nurture and groom basketball talent as well as leadership skills at the same time, a holiday camp has yet again been organized for that purpose.

As many as 70 girls aged between 12 and 18 are taking part in the event at Ssaku SSS, Luwero.

Ali Mavita, the assistant coach of the national women's basketball team (Gazelles), is part of the arrangement.

He says the event is aimed at exposing the young participants to the richness of their talent as well as influence them to use their talents to impact themselves and their peers.

"We have decided to organize a girl's leadership camp to see to it that the girl child attains leadership skills which she can use to groom herself into an outstanding future leader of this country," said Mavita.

 

The event has been organized by the Uganda Women Basketball Association (UWBA), Score Beyond and the National Council of Sports.

The five-day maiden camp that started on Wednesday has attracted girls from different schools across the country.

Nabisunsa Girls School, St Mary's Kitende, Sir Apollo Kaggwa, Ssaku SSS are some of the schools with active representation.

 The event is both practical and theoretical
