Sempala says a number of health personnel steal drugs from government health facilities.

KAMPALA - Health training institutions have been advised to dismiss students who have been found stealing property and cheating in exams because they will be stealing drugs from government health facilities to their private clinics.

The Principal Education Officer Ministry of Education and Sports, Patrick Sempala said a number of health personnel have resorted to stealing drugs from government health facilities which negatively impacts the reputation of the government.

"If you see these students stealing discontinue them," said Sempala, emphasizing that health personnel should be transparent.

He made the remarks at the 1st graduation ceremony of Kampala School of Health Sciences at the institution's premises in Rubaga division.

More than 100 students were passed out upon completion of a three-year diploma in clinical services.

Sempala revealed that the government is coming up with a strategy on physical exercise on school curriculum to avert the increasing cases of non-communicable diseases among the civil servants.

While officiating at the ceremony, he told the newly graduated clinical officers to exhibit high level of professionalism when serving the members of the communities.

Speaking at the same function, Muzige Bruhan of the Allied Health Professional Council urged the clinical officers not to be rude to patients and instead be patient and listen to them.

He said a number of patients have turned to self-medication because health officers are unapproachable.

"Patients want an officer who handles them with passion."

Muzige also called on the clinical officers not to take alcohol while dispensing services to clients, saying this will lead to substandard health services and damage to their confidence.

"An alcoholic patient doesn't want an alcoholic health personnel."
