The police in Kasese district have recovered more bodies of people killed in the weekend joint military operation.

The bodies which were recovered scattered in different parts of the district were discovered on Monday morning and taken to Kasese municipal council health center mortuary.

Sowed Mansur, the Rwenzori East Police spokesperson said Police is still searching for more bodies in Kisinga, Maliba, Bwesumbu, Bugoye and Buhuhira.

The recovery of the 25 bodies could increase the number of those killed in the operation to higher than 120 however police has not yet issued an official figure of those killed.

"We are still searching for more bodies in the areas were the operation was conducted but now the situation is calm," he said.

He said that the bodies which were recovered are suspected to be of those royal guards who were fleeing from the gunfire in the joint military operations and those who attempted to attack police stations.

By press time people still pitched camp at Kasese central police station and at the mortuary demanding for the bodies of their relatives who were killed in the operation.

However, police informed them that they could not get the bodies because a postmortem examination has been done before handing them.

"We cannot hand over the bodies of the killed royal guards because we have not yet conducted the postmortem report we dispatched the bodies to different mortuaries across the region.

"We have started on postmortem and when it's finalized, people will come and identify their relatives for burial," Police Spokesperson Felix Kaweesei told a news conference in Kasese on Tuesday.

Kaweesi assured that the king Charles Wesley Mumbere is safe and in police custody at Nalufenya in Jinja.

"The queen of Rwenzururu visited him yesterday," he said.

He said there is amnesty for those who didn't participate in the fighting and ran away. They should report to RDC's office, he said.
