Clinton loss was a blow to women - Kadaga

The Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga, has said the recent concluded US elections were a disappointment to women in the world following Hillary Clinton's loss to Donald Trump.

She said most women in the world were hoping that the biggest and powerful country in the world could be run by a woman, but were disappointed when she lost.

"This would set a great precedent about women's capabilities to become presidents. However, this did not happen and as women, we were unhappy that she did not win," Kadaga said.

"Although we are not where we are supposed to be, there is progress, things are changing and we shall get there. We still have great women leaders for instance, Angela Merkel the German Chancellor and UK Prime Minister Thereza May," she added

She made the remarks during at the flagging off the caravan by Forum for Women in Democracy (FOWODE), held at Uganda Museum on Monday.

Kadaga applauded FOWODE for its role in mentoring several women in leadership which has enabled many women take up leadership positions in the country.

Chairperson FOWODE board, Solome Nakaweesi, said the aim of the caravan is to celebrate the different components of the work of the organization, showcase the impact of the organization's work at personal, community, district and national levels.
