Big League: Kireka Utd 1 Hope Doves 0

Nov 25, 2016

Derrick Jaruwa hits the only goal of a game of few chances.

Derrick Jaruwa scored the winner as Kireka United beat Hope Doves FC in the FUFA Big League at Namboole grounds on Thursday.

Kireka will relish that result in the wake of a 5-0 away defeat to Mbarara City in their last game.

Doves, on the other hand, had been held at home by Moroto United in their previous game at Wankulukuku.

At Namboole, it was a game of few chances, particularly in the opening half. The hosts came close to finding the opener through Daniel Otto who blasted wide to keep the scoreline intact.

In truth, Kireka were the stronger side in the first 20 minutes, seeing more of the ball and tapping it around. But their opponents eventually gained momentum and threw their weight behind significant attacks.

Moses Okot will rue his missed chance when he should have been on target to give Doves the lead minutes before the break.

And the visitors will agonizingly look back at that wasted opportunity considering that only a minute after restart, the hosts took the lead when all Jaruwa was left to do was to tap home after the defence failed to clear the danger.

Again, Okot couldn't find the net when he did well to dance his way past a host of defenders but failed to beat the keeper.

Teammate Ssekandi Adnan also missed two chances later on as Kireka held on to collect three vital points.

Next up, Kireka will take on Baza Holdings while Doves will play Boma Young.
