Taxi operators call off strike

The drivers resolved to halt the strike after meeting Minister for Kampala Beti Kamya, Police and officials from the Ministry of Works

Taxis operators under their umbrella body UTRADA have suspended a strike protest against alleged Police brutality while arresting drivers in the operation dubbed ‘Tembeya Salama'.

The operation intends to crackdown on reckless drivers without permits and vehicles in dangerous mechanical conditions to minimize accidents in the Kampala Metropolitan area.

The drivers resolved to halt the strike after meeting Minister for Kampala Beti Kamya, Police and officials from the Ministry of Works, who promised to set up a committee to address their concerns by 5th December.

Mustafa Mayambala the UTRADA chairperson however tasked KCCA to implement the Presidential directive to hold elections of leaders in the industry and putting up parking spaces before Police arrests them for illegal parking.
