Local authorities in Rubongi Sub County in Tororo district have banned boda boda operations beyond midnight and bars to operate only up to 10pm.

The ban follows increased cases of petty crimes linked to late operation of bars and boda boda cyclists who have blamed for aiding criminals to escape and transporting stolen property.

Solomon Oketcho the LC3 chairman announced the ban during the budget conference held on Friday at the sub county headquarters so as to begin operationalizing laws recently passed by the council.

Oketcho said in order to achieve these they have identified 30-member security committees in every village who will work closely with Police and UPDF soldiers to conduct foot patrols.

He said under the new bylaw, parents and community members who deliberately do not provide for their children both at home and school, cases of early marriages and defilement will be arrested and prosecuted.

"As a sub county we are committed to change the lives of our people as we are looking forward to achieving Vision 2040. We are not going to condone the primitive behaviours of people turning funerals into dancing ceremonies soon after burials" Oketcho said.

The sub county chief Jacob Jakwo said beginning next term they are going they are going to conduct routine school inspections purposely to check for absenteeism of both the pupils and teachers and establish whether they provide for the pupils.

He said as a sub county they have put strategic priorities in the next financial budget to address key economic challenges affecting the communities.

The district planner William Mulabya appealed to the community development officer, Deborah Akello, to sensitize community members in group formation in order to benefit from various government programs intended to uplift their living conditions.
