KU stuns Nkumba to win University Football League

They twice came from a goal down to level matters before winning in extra time

Kampala University (KU) were on Saturday crowned champions of the Nile Special University Football League.

The Ggaba based university beat Nkumba 3-2 after extra-time having drawn 2-2 after fulltime.

It was KU's second appearance in the final at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole where they twice came from a goal down to level matters before clinching the title in extra time.

Abdul Walusimbi scored the winning goal for KU after Nicholas Kabonge's brace saw them come from behind twice in regulation time.

Martin Sserwagi had given Nkumba the lead from the penalty spot in the 26th minute before Emmanuel Wasswa netted the second early into the second half.

It was Kampala University's second Nile Special University Football League title since winning the first one in 2013.

They walked away with the trophy and sh2.5m while runners-up Nkumba took home sh1.5m.

 Makerere University defeated Uganda Martyrs in the third-place playoff.
