Kiggundu holds last press conference

He been the EC boss since 2002.

KAMPALA - Electoral Commission chairperson Eng Dr Badru Kiggundu (pictured) is holding his last press conference today (Tuesday).
 
Kiggundu officially declared his end of term in office after many years in service to the nation.
 
He has been the Commission Chairman since November 18  2002. His last major assignment was, together with his vast team, conducting the 2016 general elections earlier this year.

PARLIAMENT RESUMES

 

Meanwhile, Parliament is  set to resume today after six weeks in recess.
 
The Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga in September said she was adjourning the House from October 6 to November 14 after government had failed to hand in business to the House.
 
A document released by the clerk to parliament Paul Wabwire shows that the second meeting of the first session of the 10th parliament will resume today November at 2.00pm local time and all members of parliament are expected to take note.

ELECTORAL APPEALS

 

And in other news, a bench of 14 judges of the Court of Appeal will starting today hear electoral appeals of some MPs relating to voter bribery, lack of academic qualifications, vote rigging, among others.
 
A total of 102 cases are currently before the Court of Appeal but about 40 cases are ready for hearing.
 
The deputy spokesperson of the Judiciary, Solomon Muyita, said the hearing of these petitions will be handled within six months and any extension beyond this period will only be for exceptional cases.
