After Trump win, Nigerian comedian eyes presidency

"I am announcing my candidacy for the office of the president."

Nigeria's multi-award winning comedian Basketmouth (real name Bright Okpocha) has revealed his intentions to contest for his country's presidency in 2019 following Donald Trump's stunning victory in the American presidential election.

Trump beat his closest challenger Democrat Hillary Clinton to the White House following months of intense campaigns.

In the aftermath of the tycoon's win, which shocked the world, popular comedian Basketmouth will give the presidency a shot to possibly beat incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari.

The funnyman has for long been critical of the Nigerian government, describing its leadership as comprised of corrupt individuals.

"I am announcing my candidacy for the office of the president of our dear country in the 2019 general elections," he tweeted.

The comedian recently revealed that he would contest for presidency if then-Republican nominee Trump wins the US election against rival Clinton.

"If Donald Trump wins the US election, I'm so running for the presidential election in Nigeria 2019," he said earlier.

Basketmouth said consultations are underway over which party he will represent and he expects to make an announcement "at a future date".
