Ongwara demanded the district leaders to explain reasons for the creation of Kidetok town council against the will of the local population.

The LC3 chairperson Pingire Sub County in Serere district, Michael Ongwara, has vowed to block the creation of proposed Kidetok town council.

Ongwara alleged that the district leaders did not consult the sub county leaders over the creation.

He also accused district officials of allegedly holding secret meetings regarding the creation of the controversial Kidetok town council.

Ongwara demanded the district leaders to explain reasons for the creation of Kidetok town council against the will of the local population.

He told New Vision that the move is against the president's directive to the sub county to elevate Kidetok Parish to sub county status.

However Isa Mbooge the chief administrative officer said the creation of Kidetok town council was decided by the previous council in consultation with all organs of Pingire Sub County.

"We have already written to the Ministry of Local Government for the creation of the contentious town council" he noted.

The move by the district officials to elevate Kidetok Sub County to a town council as opposed to a sub county has received a lot of criticism from Pingire sub county leaders and residents.

Four people were on Wednesday arrested by Police led by the Serere DPC Jimmy Anthony Oyuku for protesting against the creation of the town council.

Those arrested were Patrick Ochen the LC1 Akimenga village, James Olupot the Okata LC1 village, Akope the LC1 Kidetok and Obwin Omoding.

They were later released on Police bond after spending a night in custody.
